The Avett Brothers Music & Lyrics to Be Featured in Upcoming Broadway Musical ‘Swept Away’
The show is coming to Longacre Theatre.
The upcoming Broadway musical Swept Away is set to feature music and lyrics from folk-rock band The Avett Brothers, with the musical playing Broadway’s Longacre Theatre in New York City. Performances will begin Oct. 29, with an opening set for Nov. 19.
Produced by Matthew Masten, Sean Hudock and Maddison Wells Live, the play centers on a story of shipwreck and survival, chronicling the story of four survivors of an 1888 shipwreck. The production previously ran at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Berkeley, Calif., and Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., where the musical’s song list included The Avett Brothers songs “Swept Away” (from their 2004 album Mignonette), “No Hard Feelings” and “Ain’t No Man,” (both from The Avett Brothers’ 2016 album True Sadness) and “Once and Future Carpenter” (from their 2012 album The Carpenter).
The musical’s book is from John Logan (Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Red), with direction from Michaell Mayer (American Idiot) and choreography from David Neumann (Hadestown). Wagner Johnson Productions serve as Executive Producers. Additionally, the creative team for Swept Away includes music arranger/orchestrator Chris Miller, music arranger and orchestrator/music supervisor Brian Usifer, music director Will Van Dyke, set designer Rachel Hauck, costume designer Susan Hilferty, lighting designer Kevin Adams, sound designer John Shivers and casting directors Jim Carnahan, Jillian Crimini and Alexandre Bleau, CSA.
